What is focused ultrasound lifting?

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a non-surgical lifting technology that delivers concentrated ultrasound energy to precise layers of the skin to trigger collagen regeneration and lifting.

Like focusing sunlight with a magnifying glass, the energy converges at a fixed depth and creates micro thermal coagulation points (TCPs)—tiny zones that briefly reach ~60–70°C. These points stimulate collagen denaturation and remodeling without injuring the surrounding tissue.

HIFU is the only non-invasive device that can reach the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system), the same layer tightened in surgical facelifts. Energy to the SMAS causes immediate tissue contraction and ongoing collagen remodeling for longer-term lifting.

Because the epidermis is spared, downtime is minimal and HIFU can be used across a wide range of skin types.

DOT Mode

MP Mode

Short answer: under the same parameters (energy, depth, number of shots), Shurink Universe and Ulthera show no meaningful difference in effect.

Both are HIFU devices that deliver thermal energy to the SMAS, causing collagen contraction and regeneration for lifting.

For example:

• Shurink Universe (DOT) 1.0 J × 300 shots
• Ulthera 1.0 J × 300 shots
• → both deliver a total of 300 J.

• On thin skin, temporary tip marks can appear; they usually fade naturally within 1–2 weeks.
• Mild redness, warmth, tingling, swelling, tenderness, tooth sensitivity, etc. may occur and typically resolve within 1–2 weeks. Please contact us if symptoms are severe or persistent.
